Shafrin Islam
Shafrin Islam (she/they) is an illustrator, painter, and animated filmmaker. They earned their MFA in Visual Studies from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, with a focus on interdisciplinary art practices. Their work bridges the internal and external worlds, exploring themes of identity, geographical mythology, and belonging. Inspired by their synesthetic experience, where they visualize colors through music, Shafrin translates emotions into tangible patterns and colors, often collaborating closely with musicians.
With a bachelor's degree in Media and Communication from Bangladesh, Shafrin has worked as a freelance designer, animator, and children's book illustrator, creating work that raises awareness about inclusivity, environmental issues, and education. In pursuit of artistic growth, they relocated to Minnesota, where their work has been exhibited and screened both locally and internationally, including at the Parkway Theater, Gallery 148, Homewood Studios, Jatra, ARKA Gallery, Moar and so on.
